A Retro line bracelet comprised of sugarloaf amazonite links, in 18k gold. France, maker's poinçon for Lucien Péry
Lucien Péry, also known as Péry et Cie, was a master jewelry workshop which produced pieces for a number of renowned jewelry firms such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Boucheron, Chaumet and Bulgari. They were responsible for many of Van Cleef & Arpels' most famous designs, such as the Ludo bracelets and Zip necklaces. The company's prestigious clientele included the Duchess of Windsor, Grace Kelly, and Doris Duke. In 2012, Brigitte Péry-Eveno sold the workshop - including the archives, tools, molds, and drawings - to Van Cleef & Arpels.
Sugarloaf cabochons are a wonderful variation on the traditional cabochon
shape. A sugarloaf, like all cabochons, has a smooth, polished
surface and no facets, utilizing some of the most ancient cutting
techniques. Sugarloaf cabochons have a four-sided, domed pyramidal
shape, which optimizes the natural colors of a variety of colored stones.
The stone cut is presumably named after the form in which refined sugar was usually produced and sold until the mid-19th century when it became available in cubes and granulated form.
